Just love this description of finding, then building your life in Camont. And what treasure under the 60 wheelbarrows of rubble! Those tile floors are the best! In France they say that we don't choose a house, the stones choose us! Indeed you heard them calling you, and you understood the assignment.

This is gorgeous writing. We love that idea of just leaving some things be. Our barns are going to stay ‘very French farm’. Where there’s no need to change things, leave them. Love this story of yours. The patience of the restoration is astonishing. And the learning you have done, and so generously shared, is incredible.

I might refer us all to @Wil Reidie talking about making that slow cooked onion purée in his latest post. Sometimes the real secret is patience and time…

Proper slow living. I must dig out that piece by Wil.

" If you have ever dreamt about owning “an old pile of stones,” I caution you—this could be your undoing. Or your great glory."

This made me smile Kate, never a truer word was said... We fall in love not only with the idea but the very bones (yes!) of the house too, they become so much a part of our lives that we can no longer imagine another. How well I remember our own pile of stones, roof in, no windows worth saving, no floors, in fact so little floor there were two parts to the house we didn't even know were there until we began renovations - ongoing still, 20 years later... did I mention patience?

Gorgeous evocative writing as always.

Thank you for transporting me to Camont. What a lovely journey at 4:30 this morning while listening to a tropical storm.

It looks amazing , I did 2 remolel in my 1958 house in Newport Beach. Remolded kitchen 2020 and added on 400 square feet master bedroom, bath and walk in closet. 🏡
