This is something I'm putting on my list of "things I want to do before too much longer passes". Last time I did a writing retreat, it was DIY. Rented a flat in Bordeaux, wrote every day for a month, and saintly wife took a month off work to be with me and do the dog-walks and food (I'm usually the cook). I also once had a chance to sit as an invited think-writer for a week in Belaggio, but that was way too elevated for me, (dressing for dinner and cocktails on the lawn etc). This looks way more supportive and comfortable.
I love this Kate - great to get to know you and a little more of what went before (very envious of you seeing Laurie Anderson!) and really looking forward to this next project. Naming is, as you say, such a powerful thing isn't it - gives you energy, definition and impetus. Very much looking forward to what's next
So excited for you! I love the new name you chose too, "Champêtre", as it conjurés everything I love about living the slow life in France. I can't wait.
What a fabulous new name! I plan to subscribe soon, as I am moving to France in late October! Ready for the next adventure to begin. Bon Chance to you and Me!
Sounds fabulous, life well lived and more to come! I am REALLY looking forward to your new explorations Beyond Cassoulet! Since we are same age, it is also interesting that you share your process so transparently.....I find much to relate to!
I'm so excited for this shift! I'm in Paris right now for four days after booking the ticket on a whim last month because the call to come to France kept getting stronger and stronger. I can't wait to come write at your place some day. Maybe 2025.
Bienvenue Katie! France delivers if you open your arms to her, warts and all. The countryside is the other side of the coin to Paris. Come discover it soon…
What an endlessly layered and fascinating project, Kate. I can't help but see a thread of hyper-seasonality weaving its way through this idea--but I am hopelessly and happily biased.
Looking forward to this new journey, Kate. You bring inspiration to all.
You keep on inspiring us! I hope you'll enjoy this part as much as before!

Great read ❤️
That looks wonderful!
Can’t wait for more and esp. the à la carte road trips (which we want to try!).
I love the focus a new name brings. And champêtre is a gorgeous one. Best of luck on this new path!

Fabulous, Kate! And congratulations!
I’m already inspired by you to move to France. Champêtre could topple me right on over.
