Another wonderful post from your small paradise, Kate--thank you so much! I'm sharing it with several other heritage fruit lovers too.

Kate, your post changed me. I immediately (after voraciously, delightedly reading about apples, pears, figs, clafoutis), looked up heirloom orchards in my region, and am now planning to visit Jack London’s farm in Glen Ellen tomorrow. Thank you!

Kate, wonderful article. I love this act of saving lost plants and fruits. It reminded me of an article I read recently about a man here in the U.S. who has saved hundreds of apple varieties from extinction. Amazing work. Thanks for sharing.

I would love to have one of these heirloom species in my tiny garden! After reading the other comments, I looked to see if there was an heirloom orchard anywhere around me in Colorado. Lo and behold there is one up north in Loveland! While the wildlife here probably precludes me growing any fruit in my yard, I would love to go visit this orchard and see what types of fruit they grow.
