It starts with a hunger for the sea…

And small fish.

Anchovies

Sardine

Calamari

And more anchovies.

A sip of Vermut Nero; a coppa de Cava.

Next, the sound of a quiet sea lapping the sand.

A tramontana wind in the palm trees.

Lavender and Immortelles scent the breeze.

Hundreds of years whisper across stone and mosaic ruins at Empùries.

That’s how I begin a road trip. A Catalan RoadTrip.

With just a couple of days' break ahead, and before a few months of being laid up on crutches after knee surgery, I made a brief escape from Camont for Spain, Catalunya, and the Costa Brava at L’Escala on the southern curve of the Gulf of Roses.
